'Totally Under Control' Director Alex Gibney on Filming the Covid-19 Documentary During the Pandemic

"Totally Under Control" director Alex Gibney was inspired to create the Covid-focused documentary after losing a friend to the virus and another friend wound up on a ventilator.
“It struck me that the federal response was terrible,” he tells Variety. “It was important to do a film about that. And also important, that if one was to do that film, to have the film come out prior to the election so it would be a reckoning of the response and hold the president to account.”

Gibney details how he managed to film the documentary while also following CDC guidelines for Variety's Doc Dreams.
