Should I Say Yes More Often?

Should I Say Yes More Often?

The quick answer to the question of whether you should say “yes” more often is almost certainly yes.

But why?

Yes is a positive word, which is a good reason in itself to say it more often. We attract more of what we think about, so being positive will help attract more positive things to us.

Sometimes you have to think about whether or not “yes” is a good answer but, unless you’re being asked to do something immoral or illegal, it’s unlikely that it will lead you astray.

It could also open up new opportunities – ones you’d never have encountered if you dithered or just automatically said no.

Which brings us on to a point few people consider but lots of people do.

For a lot of people, “no” is the default answer. Often without thought. Just “because” they’ve always done it.

If that’s you, try saying yes more often. Not necessarily 100% of the time and it’s probably not worth keeping a precise tally. But enough that there’s a better than 50/50 chance that you’ll say yes.

Try it – even if it’s only for a day – and see how it pans out. If you’re like most people, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the outcome which will hopefully lead you into a virtuous circle of saying yes more often.

Quite often when we’re asked a question that could lead to us saying yes, it’s because the person asking us believes it’s the right choice for us but doesn’t want us to feel pressured.

So, by asking a question where we could refuse, they’re giving us the option to say no. But, if you quizzed them, they think yes is the only correct answer you should give.

Of course, asking them could well lead to them sitting on the fence and saying it’s your decision. Because they don’t want to pressure you. But inside their head they’re thinking you’d be a fool to say no.

Saying yes more often also stretches you – mentally or physically depending on what the question was in the first place. And often you’ll come out the other end of the experience wondering why you were so worried about the idea in the first place.

So if you’d like to experience new things in your life, I really think you should say “yes” more often.

And if you’d like help doing that, so that it becomes a more likely answer, playing yourself some positive affirmations (disguised in a subliminal MP3 so your subconscious will get the message loud and clear) is a good way to go.
