I am announcing Skardu to Gilgit Road S1 the most dangerous road i have ever done in Pakistan. The risk due to blasting has increased exponentially.
The 177km treacherous road is a nightmare for every commuter.
For some it is an adventure of lifetime. But the road really takes toll on many of its visitors.
It is not an easy highway and one must take it that way.
Road has been under construction for few years now and is pretty much bearable these days but in the past, this road for sure was one hell of a treat for risk takers.
Sadly, there are accidents occurring there very frequently. Mainly because of landslides.
Blasting by FWO (Frontier Works Organization) is part of routine life there since many years now and its no fun for locals in anyway.
Locals mostly opt for Deosai to reach karakoram highway and Gilgit subsequently via Astore which is comparatively safer and more beautiful..
S1 sees heavy traffic mainly as those big trucks do not take Deosai Road.
There are things that you might to consider while doing S1
Friday's are off hence no blasting, hence you get no road blockages.
Carry enough water with you as there are not many shops or water streams there.
Carry food in any form you like
I was stuck at a blasting site for 7 hours and ran out of water (Even though i was carrying good amount)
