FIND THE GLOBAL MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM FOR THE FUNCTION OF THE CLOSED INTERVAL - How to find them

FIND THE GLOBAL MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM FOR THE FUNCTION OF THE CLOSED INTERVAL - How to find them Once you know how to find the critical numbers you can use these to find the global maximum and minimum of that function. In this video I'll show you how to find the absolute maximum and minimum of a function if you are given a function and a closed interval.

In this video I will show you how to find the global maximum and minimum for the function on the closed interval for f(x)=x-ln(x) on the interval [1/2, 2]. This is a fairly straight forward process and can be done in 3 easy steps:

1. 1:09 - Find the critical numbers in the open interval (1/2, 2).
2. 4:46 - Add the endpoints of your interval to the list of critical numbers.
3. 5:27 - Find the value of the function at each critical number. Compare these outputs to find the global maximum and to find the absolute minimum.
