This is the Sunday, April 26 edition of my Live at Home Series. So it’s another gospel number. I was thinking about what to sing, and when we watched Harriet this past week, that’s when I made up my mind. Harriet tells a story that every American should know. I think present day American history books mention her, but I certainly don’t remember hearing about her when I was in high school and college. That’s a shame, because for what she contributed to pre-Civil War, Civil War, and post-Civil War history, she deserves a whole lot more attention. She was one of the early “conductors” of the Underground Railroad. For that alone, she stands as a mighty hero of American history; the rest you can research on your own. It will be worth it. The movie does her justice. She was a person of faith and hope, driven to free as many slaves as she could. Towards the end of the movie, after the Fugitive Slave Act is passed, she is being hunted down by her former slave owner. No spoilers here if you haven’t seen the movie; but “Sinner Man” is a part of the soundtrack at this point. The song is an old spiritual about Judgement Day; and there will be no place on earth to hide. On that day, I’ll leave it to God to do the judging. And there will be only one place to hide.
