Trump is 'operating under a constitutional delusion'

Trump is 'operating under a constitutional delusion' Sky News contributor Michael Ware says “President Trump is operating under a delusion, a constitutional delusion that he could order the states what to do”.

Signs of conflict have emerged between US President Donald Trump and state governors over how to handle the coronavirus crisis, with some governors saying they would defy the president’s instructions if he ordered them to relax lockdown measures too early.

Mr Ware told Sky News “the president seems to be ignoring, or neglecting, the 10th Amendment that says unless it is spelt out in the Constitution, the federal government doesn’t have the power and the power goes to the states”.

“Trump is insisting he has the power to order these state governments to reopen whenever he tells them too,” he said.

“I think the law is on the side of the states here and the president is barking up some dark legal tree.”
