DRAMATIC Video of Car Running Light & Crashing SUV 4.12.20 | By Adam Balhetchet | 60 Pct | GRAVESEND, Brooklyn - A two-vehicle collision left one driver in critical condition. According to police, it happened just before 9:51 pm Sunday at Ocean Parkway and Ave Z. Dramatic dashcam video shows a 2014 Infiniti QX6 SUV (with Uber Stickers) struck by a 2005 Hyundai Sonata who ran a red light. The SUV then hit a pole and both vehicles remained on the scene. The 30-year-old male driver of the Hyundai Elantra was rushed to NYU Lutheran where he was pronounced deceased on Monday. The 31-year-old male Uber driver of the 2014 Infiniti SUV refused medical attention at the scene. NYPD Highway was on the scene investigating. North and southbound directions of Ocean Parkway was shut down during the investigation.

An update from NYPD this morning states 30-year-old Mohammad Rafaq was pronounced dead at the hospital yesterday. One of his family members informed us that he was a married man and father of a 2-year-old boy and a 6-month-old boy. He does not drink, smoke, or do drugs. He also has not had any prior accidents. He returned from Pakistan 5 years ago. The family is currently having difficulties finding a funeral home since most are full due to the Covid19 pandemic.

NYPD DCPI UPDATE 4.14.20 “On Sunday, April 12, 2020, at approximately 2151 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Avenue Z and Ocean Parkway, within the confine of the 60 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 30-year-old male operator of a 2005 Hyundai Elantra, with trauma about the body. EMS responded to the location and transported the aided male to NYU Langone Hospital- Brooklyn, where he was pronounced deceased on Monday, April 13, 2020. EMS also tended to a 30-year-old male operator of a 2014 Infiniti QX6, who refused further medical attention at the scene. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that vehicle #1, the Hyundai Elantra, was traveling westbound on Avenue Z at Ocean Parkway and disobeyed a steady red traffic signal at the same time that vehicle #2, the Infiniti QX6, was traveling northbound on Ocean Parkway at Avenue Z. Vehicle #1 struck vehicle #2 at the intersection, causing vehicle #2 to strike a pole at the location before both vehicles came to a rest. The investigation remains ongoing.
